Conception

“Conception” was an installation created to examine the ways in which the mind processes what it sees and how our mind translates the world onto paper. Installed in the Beacon High School and Manhattan gallery “Rabbit Rabbit”, “Conception” is a complete rendition of my studio space. Within the space I recreated the still life set ups, such as the shoe pile and the cluttered desk, that I used while in my studio to create the pieces that fill the room. As you look from the shoe pile on the ground to the painting hung above the desk you will see the exact thing I did when I created the hung painting. Through an explicit showcase of figurative inspiration, the audience is offered a window into my mind. By comparing what I’ve made to what was seen, a picture is created, a picture of how I work and how I translate what I see, giving light to the ways in which my life experiences have spaced my methods of creation. Within this installation I’ve offered both ends of the spectrum of creation, the inspiration and the final product, allowing the audience to fill the in between with their understandings and experiences.
